Recording the News – Capturing the Spirit

Tibetans in Dharamshala protested against the Chinese celebrating March 28 as the Serf Liberation Day. There was a protest vigil in the evening attended by hundreds of exiles. Here are some photos from the protest.vigil01

I have been shooting these vigils for quite some time now. I never use a flashgun and rely on a combination of high ISO and a fast lens. I enjoy the way light plays out in candlelit photos. Any external lighting destroys the mood in these low light photographs, so I avoid it. With the newer digital cameras even a f2.8 or f4 lens could give a manageable shutter speed (usually between 1/8 and 1/15th of a second). I challenge myself and go sometime up to 1 second shutter speed. Hope you enjoy looking at these.vigil043
